British Citizenship for Non-EEA naturalised French

Post by Blinxy » Mon Feb 05, 2018 5:31 pm

Hi

I have been in the UK for 4 years now under EEA2 Familly permit. My husband for 6 years he applied for the resident card 2 months ago.
I got my french citizenship last month. We have a 18 months old baby born in the UK and I was wondering how can I apply myself for the British citizenship?
Do I have to wait to have 5 years living in the UK or have to live in the UK for 5 years more since I have now dual citizenship or do it as a wife of a British National when my husband applies next year for British citizenship?

It's complicated but if someone can give me some advice that would be great.

Thanks

To start with, you will need to have PR. You can only apply for British citizenship after you have settled status in the UK (either PR or ILR). So, you will need to spend at least one further year in the UK (as either the spouse of an EEA citizen or as an EEA citizen exercising treaty rights yourself, or a combination of the two).

After you have acquired PR (and a DCPR), if your husband has acquired British citizenship, you can apply for British citizenship immediately, provided you meet the absence and other requirements. If your husband has not acquired British citizenship, then you will need to wait for a further year (i.e. two years from now) before applying for British citizenship.
