Well, it will certainly cut down on the number of applications. Especially those from less wealthy countries.

don't think it will cut down on # of applications. It will just make it more difficult. Ppl will don ANYTHING (i.e. beg/borrow ; hopefully not steal) to get a better life for kids/wife/self.

also, the govmt know this and hence they raise the fees to raise more money. it's kinda like cigarette tax, they know it will be difficult, ppl will smoke few less initially, in the end manufacturers they will make more money. not a fair system but that's life.

i think those fees are coming into effect from this april. what they saying is that they will be even higher in 2008 when the system is going to 'self funding'

The new fee level for HSMP applications, £315, applies to applications received on or after 1st April 2005.

Chess, you say that £315 is for HSMP renewals. That is not my reading. I think it applies to new applications only.

But .... and you will appreciate that this is a big BUT ..... visa extensions in the UK .... for example by holders of IED documents, those will cost £335 by post or £500 for an "in person" application at a PEO.

Full details of the new fees, announced yesterday in a Written Statement, can be seen by going to :-

Written Statements

-: then clicking on the statement made by Des Browne about Working Holidaymakers ... then scrolling to the very bottom of that statement.

My one-word comment about these new fee levels is ... ouch! My longer comment is unprintable.

Immigrants can't vote. But the voters are happy to have stricter immigration controls and more of the cost placed on the immigrants themselves.

Rella, many immigrants can vote in the UK! It all depends from where they have come.

I have just posted a message in :-

Topic : Lib Dems better than Tories and Labour

-: which fully describes who is entitled to vote in the UK.

It appears that HSMP initial applications will go up to £315. If this is the case then it is not Equitable as people from the 3rd world and developing world will find it expensive to apply

FLR- IED (presumably including extensions will cost £335 and there will be a premium service at £500)

I find the 'premium' service say for HSMP bizzare!. Will they check all your evidence in 15minutes :o

I think premium service means you renew in person by appointment, currently £250 (by post £121). You get your FLR same day. But HSMP renewals can only be done by post at the moment, so it's £335 for us. Nearly 3x as much as original price, I do hope they improve the service!

Same for HSMP applications, I hope they can reduce processing times with that price increase.

Wait a sec, does it mean that we can apply for FLR(IED) in person (premium service)? I thought that only applies to ILR.

We (HSMP) can't. But people applying for FLR on student visas, spouse visas (not sure what else) can.

You have to wonder about the intelligence about those boffins at the Home Office sometimes. I now have to pay 730 pounds in July for the HO to take our PP's for 3+ months so my wife and I to extend our initial 1 year HSMP.

Paying more for ever increasingly bad performance???? I wonder if these HO bureaucrats have even heard of the term 'customer service'.

AFAIU you don't have to pay for your wife - the main applican'ts fee includes processing for dependants if the all documents are submitted together.

it could be possible that once your HSMP or work permit has been approved you will be able to take your passport to Croydon to get it stamped

I was talking about FLR(IED) - I had my HSMP approved a year ago and am now working in London, so it is an issue of renewal which should be really straightforward - I am a higher rate taxpayer and work at a Big Four audit firm, never used any benefits and have no intention of doing so...
