Post by q786 » Mon Apr 23, 2018 10:47 am

Hi There,

I recently applied and received my ILR under the 5 year spouse visa. My question is do I need to wait 12 months to apply for naturalization or can I do it now?
I have seen many answer saying yes and no, So i was hoping for a definite answer please?

Hi q786,

You can apply for Naturalisation straight away if you're spouse of a British National and you meet the language criteria as well as residence requirements.

Thanks

Thank you for your quick reply.

Please excuse my naivety, he is a British citizen since 2004, does this mean he is a British national?

No. A British national is someone who was born in the UK and cannot be changed for another nationality.

Citizenship is a legal status . Your husband is now a British citizen and can apply for or hold citizenship of another country.
