British Citizenship by descent

Post by Moneill123 » Wed May 02, 2018 4:23 pm

Hi. I am applying for my husband’s UK citizenship with the UKM form. His mom was born in England and he was born in Rhodesia in 1969. He is now living in South Africa. I have her and his birth certificates but I have a few questions.

1. Do I need his mother’s passport too?
2. He got a tourist visa in November for the UK
and they took his photo and fingerprints. Does t
this count as biometric info or not.

Thank you

1. I believe he does. He must submit what the form asks for. A notarised or certified copy of the passport might be sufficient.

2. Yes it is biometrics but he will have to enroll his biometrics again for the UKM application.

Thanks for your assistance. I have one more question. One her and his birth certificates his mom’s maiden name was used. Her passport has her married surname and my husbands surname and because it is different I assume they will require a marriage certificate. His parents were married in 1967 and we only have a copy of the Catholic Church certificate and a prenup contract. Would that be sufficient or should I try and get a copy of the official marriage certificate?

Where were his parents married, UK or abroad?

You could explain the reasoning for only have a copy.

They were married in Zimbabwe. Rhodesia back then. I am trying to get an official copy but if I can’t I’ll send a letter of explanation.

I have one more question. It doesn’t say anything about an English language test on the instructions but I have read about it elsewhere. Is that still needed? I suppose it’s best to do everything and include it even if not necessary.

It is not required for UKM applications. You are likely reading the requirements for naturalisation on form AN, which is different.

Thanks so much for your help. I had originally thought of going through an agent until I found out how much they charge. It seems a reasonably easy process.

It is a fairly straightforward application and lots of advice and support on the forum too. See the link below.
