TIER 2 General Extension

Post by vonvonbu » Wed May 02, 2018 5:45 pm

Hello friends,

I am due to renew my visa November of this year. But the process is very confusing. I am wondering if you guys might be able to shed some light on my questions.

1. What type of visa do I have? (I need to specify this on the online application website) My BRP states that the type of permit I have is TIER 2 ( General) Leave to Enter. Issued 17.11.2015 valid until 11.11.2018. Is Tier 2 (General) Leave to Enter same as Tier 2 (General) Leave to Remain? Is there a way to check this? because when I entered "TIER 2 ( General) Leave to Enter" on the website it said that I am not able to use the website or the service. I am very confused.

2. I have been working with my employer for the last 2 years under the abovementioned visa/permit and they have offered to extend my employment for another 3 years. Do I need to ask them for a new Certificate of Sponsorship before I start my Visa extension application?

Thank you very much everyone :)

1. You need to apply for Tier 2 (General) leave to remain.

2. Yes, your employer need to provide you with new CoS number. You need this for you online application.
My advice is based on personal research/experience, so pls check relevant UKVI sources.

Thanks for your reply. So it means that I need to apply for an extension then? Is my current BRP considered as my current Tier 2 General Visa?

Yes, you need to apply for an extension.
Yes, BRP contains your current visa details.

Btw, you don't want your employer to generate a new CoS so early as your visa is valid until November.

Read the guidance on extension for all details: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... 18__2_.pdf
My advice is based on personal research/experience, so pls check relevant UKVI sources.

The new CoS should not be generated no earlier than 3 months before your extension.
