Commencement of Tier1 Visa during workpermit validity

Post by anurikavidya » Sun Apr 27, 2008 9:58 pm

Hi,

I am currently in UK under workpermit visa and the same expires in October this year. I am planning to apply for Tier 1 General - Highly skilled professional Visa in this month. My questions to this forum are as follows :

1. If Tier 1 Visa gets approved, will that start after the expiry of my work
permit OR starts immediately ?

2. Will my workpermit visa becomes invalid once i get Tier1 Visa ?

3. If my employer extends my workpermit , will Tier 1 Visa becomes
effective after the expiry of the extended work permit visa OR
immediate OR after the expiry of the current work permit tenure ?

4. In short how does the Tier 1 Visa affects my work permit thereby my
current employer may take action on me ?

I appreciate your quick reply.

Regards
Anurika

1. Your Tier 1 visa will be effective from the day it is issued (valid from date shown on the visa).
2. Yes, your work permit visa will be invalid once you get a Tier 1 visa.
3. Answer as in 1 above. If your Tier 1 appication is successful, you can inform your employer not to apply for WP extension as you will then have the legal right to live and work in UK under the Tier 1 scheme.
4. Why would they take any action against you? In fact you will be saving them money and paperwork !

regards
