English Language Requirement for ILR from Tier 2

Post by aben » Sat Mar 31, 2018 8:37 am

Hi All,

I have obtained my Tier 2 general visa on 2014 applied from out side of UK, Since I have a non UK degree I obtained the NARIC statement for the Tier 2 application. Now I am preparing the documents for my ILR next year.

from the ILR document check list, I found prove the knowledge of English Language (https://www.gov.uk/english-language/degrees-in-english)

could you please clarify the following ?
1. Can I use the same NARIC statement used for Tier 2 visa application on 2014 ?
2. Does NARIC statement has any expiry date ?

3. What are the other documents I should submit along with NARIC for the prove of English language ?

thank you in advance.

I manged to find some answers from this forum However still not clear on these.

1. Can I use the same NARIC statement used for Tier 2 visa application on 2014 ?
Answer :
according to KoLL, I could use the same NARIC Statement? obtained in a blue route / ordinary route. (not sure on 2014 red route was available)
according to KoLL following found on page 16
qualification was obtained in a non-majority English-speaking country, an ELPS or
an English language assessment (ELA) is also required. However, you do not need
to see additional confirmation from NARIC where the:
• Home Office have previously accepted a degree qualification as meeting the
requirements for an earlier application, and leave was granted

2. Does NARIC statement has any expiry date ?
Answer:
may be this question is not relevant, can ignore.

3. What are the other documents I should submit along with NARIC for the prove of English language ?
Answer:
according to this topic
1,Original degree certificate from the university from India
2,Letter from UK Naric confirming equivalent level of degree (statement of comparability)
3. Official letter from university confirming degree was taught in English on official letter head with seal stamp etc
+
an English language Proficiency Statement (ELPS) from UK NARIC, which will
confirm that the degree was taught in English

Since I am still confused, I have two options,
1. Go for the two statements from NARIC (more cost)
2. take SELT B1 level exam at trinitycollege (
Indefinite Leave to Remain — ILR
(Settlement/Permanent Residency)
B1 Speaking and listening

please advice or give your thoughts on this, I have IELTS (General ) certificate taken on 2011 as well.

Hello Guys,

Even am looking for the answers:

https://www.gov.uk/english-language/degrees-in-english

----
If your degree was taught or researched in English
You can prove your knowledge of English by having a degree that was taught or researched in English.

If you have a degree from a UK university, you only need your original degree certificate.

If your degree isn’t from a UK university, you’ll need your original degree certificate and one of the following:

an original letter or certificate from UK NARIC confirming the equivalent level of your degree, plus an official letter from your university with your name and degree confirming that your degree was taught in English
an original and official certificate from your university confirming the degree was taught or researched in a majority English-speaking country (except Canada)

-----------

But based on the above guidance from UKBA:

1. Statement of comparability which we used for tier 2 application
2. + Original degree certificate from college
3. +, official letter from college to confirm that degree has been taught in english (With college stamp and letter head)

These are enough i guess. But i am looking for some confirmation from experts here

Dear Members,

In case if I am taking the SELT B1 level exam, what is the pass marks / pass grade I should get ?

According to Trinity College, the pass grades for Trinity are A, B and C.

in the end of video of exam

I couldn’t find what pass grade is required for ILR.

I am planning to sit for this exam, Please advise.

Any one sit for this exam and went for the ILR.

There is NO grade. You either get a PASS or a FAIL

Thank you Zimba,

Its good to hear. but the exam itself has grades like A, B or C.
pass means even if I score C I can consider as Pass and apply for ILR.

thanks

Band scores signify your expertise in speaking & understanding the language. Someone with an AA score has better grasp of the language compared to someone with BC score/rating. Both of these results are considered as Pass though.

Results AA, AB, BC, CD are considered pass. A result 'DD' is considered fail.

Right towards the end of the following link, you'll find further links for sample test result scores. That'll make it more clear as to what is measured and how.

I should also mention that band score is only specified on the provisional test result that you will receive right after the test.

The actual certificate is sent in post within a week's time. This certificate only specifies 'Pass' and doesnt have any band score specified on it.

Hi All,

I went for Trinity College SELT B1 Grade 5 exam last week, its was really nothing, just a discussion for 10 minutes. I would highly recommend who has uncertainty about UNARIC assessment & letter from Academic ... I would say Trinity exam is easy and quick for the same amount.

thanks
