Child born abroad to a British Citizen

Post by Amadou » Wed Jun 20, 2018 1:06 pm

I’m not sure if anyone is on this site anymore to help me out with my question.

Basically, I’m British by naturalisation (passport holder) my wife is in Africa and we just had a baby. I’ll like to invite my wife and the baby over in UK. I know my wife will required a visa, but, does my baby need a visa or should I apply a passport for the baby in UK or in Africa directly or do I need some formal documents.

I’ll appreciate it if anyone with experience can assist me on this.
a) Is it possible to apply a British passport for her in UK while the baby is away in Africa
b) Apply British passport for the baby in Africa
c) Does the baby required a registration prior to apply British passport.

Many thank in Advance.

a) Possible

b) Yes

c) No, child is British by Descent. Are you named on the child's birth certificate??

Also, please refrain from tagging duplicate post/questions onto other members topics/threads. See point 12 in the link below.

Thank you CR001. basically i'm new on this site and didn't know i need to create my personal topic. Apologies first of all.

however, many thank for your swift response.

Yes, i'm name on the child birth certificate.

Again, further clarity. For (C), I would need to print out the application form (what's the right form) and fill it out and send it to British embassy for my baby's passport?

Many thanks again Char, you are been very helpful and i really appreciate your guidance.

The child is 3 months old and has no other documentation besides her birth certificate. I believe, i just need to provide that and other documentation from her Mum and myself including our marriage certificate.

correct?

You need to provide evidence of your British citizenship granted before the child was born. You don't state when you became British, but I am assuming it was not recently.

Char another question please.

on the application form in section 2.

Do i need to put the baby's Africa address or is ok to use my UK address as the baby's?

i understand that the document/passport will be send to the Africa Embassey under baby's name, however, if i use my address on the application will they send it to my address or this will cause an issue.

thanks again in advance
