Married certificate issued in Srilanka-Getting married in Srilanka

Post by bigben1982 » Tue Aug 28, 2018 5:56 am

Hi forum experts,

I am going to get engaged through my district registrar in Sri Lanka in few days time.I am not a British and holding ILR only.
Local registrar said,he can't put my UK address on the married certificate, only he can mention the address where I am currently staying in Srilanka. Is this information correct?

Please kindly share your advice and experience with me asap.

Are you getting married or engaged? You do not need to show UK address in a Sri Lankan Marriage certificate, you will need to show your Sri Lankan address!

Make sure when you apply for settlement visa that you submit the original marriage certificate and have it translated into English from Sinhala/Tamil

Hi Londoner007,
Thanks a lot for the reply.
Sorry for the late response.
I got engaged on 28/08 and got married on 31/08.
I have got original marriage certificate in Tamil, translated in English.

Did atttestation at foreign affairs only for translated copy.

I will be submitting original marriage certificate (Tamil),attested English copy.

Is that ok?Please kindly advice me.

That question can be best answered by someone Sri Lankan applicant who has already applied that. But generally the marriage certificate must preferably be translated into English from government body like embassy, consulate, national ID / passport issuing authority, union council etc.
The opinion expressed as above is neither a professional advice nor contesting/competing to other member's opinion/advice.

As the questions relate to the modalities of marriage in Sri Lanka, moved to the Other countries forum.
