Different in spelling of name in Passport and Employment document

Post by anmon35 » Tue Aug 28, 2018 6:52 pm

Hi,

Hoping you could help me with the below situation for my dad's Visitor VISA.

My dad is a retired government servant where his name is spelled as MOGAN, rest all other documents including his passport get his name as spelled MOHAN.

He is receiving monthly pension and have property to show the financial status in India.

So should he mention Given Names in application as MOHAN and under Other Names as MOGAN with reason as 'Professional Name' or 'Name at Birth' and attach both the documents?

Or is it advised to not mention name MOGAN anywhere in the application form and also not to show the pension as an income?

Many thanks in advance!!!

Yet another example our Indian system really screws people over with their gross incompetence!

The PASSPORT Name is the one you need to stick to on visa application as this is the travel document... Do not mention the incorrect name anywhere if it is not needed.

Was his name at birth ACTUALLY "Mogan"? -- If the incorrect spelling is purely on Pension statements associated with his former workplace, check if you need to send these pension statements at all..

If you are only showing the bank account it is paid into (which is in the correct name), you get away from even mentioning the incorrect name anywhere in the application..
In worst case, if you do need to include evidence where the name is incorrectly spelt - include this error in a cover letter from his/your end.

Other than that, assuming you are evidencing other Fixed deposits / bank statements, property papers in the correct name, that should be fine..

Dont dig a deeper hole by acknowledging the "incorrect" spelling as Professional Name or any other elevated status other than the fact it is a mistake (that should ideally have been corrected at the very beginning)!
