their are only 3 steps once the application get into second stage character check, submission of file to ministers office and final decision.
Actually I wonder if there's an official statement on what each stage is doing.

Based on responses received, we have:
  • Initial stage
-- Check all documents, signatures, witnesses etc are in place
-- Issue application number and receipt of payment
  • - First stage
-- What do they check here??
  • - Second stage
    -- Check Garda records
    -- Prepare for submission
  • - Advanced stage
    -- Submitted to minister
    -- Final decision made

I hope procedure is that streamlined...on the other hand we have seen people jumping from 2nd and advanced stage and at times between any stages according to responses from the office....nothing is predictable with this office. Also I have a friend and we both came to this country on the same plane, we started working in the same organization on the same date, back home we studied together in the same college for 5 years and then worked in the same department for 4 years together. Both of us had no issues in Garda Vetting and police clearance before starting job here in Ireland and in Ireland no offense history, I applied in November 16 and he applied in February 17, he got approval in May ceremony and has got passport and I am still waiting and moving around in different stages as per office response... so nothing is predictable...

Hi. My brother applied for Irish naturalisation/citizenship in December 2015. They acknowledged the application and from time to time asked for submission of latest GNIB cards and letter from local GNIB office. But to date no final outcome despite running into third year. My brother is quite worried and kept sending emails to the citizenship office but they are over and over again replying with same message that its being processed currently. Is there anything can be done to fast process because I heard it takes max 6-12 months to process completely.

I had very similar experience during my time. I called the department and was told same thing as you mentioned. After the call I received my second letter I waited for for 7 months. Three weeks later was my approval letter.

You got through? Least someone does answer I guess. I've tried last three "open" days. Rings 30sec and cuts-off, rings 45 sec and cuts-off or line is busy message and the callback option is not available.

I had my doubts as well. :P I thought they left a wrong number or forgot to update it on their website, until I found out this website and realised it did work occasionally for other people... I got through once successfully even since...

Hi Folks,
Can you please share the latest update you got about your application?
Mine is ready to be submitted to minister since more than 3 months and I don't know if it has been submitted or not as they are not clarifying that to me when I talk to them.

I got a second letter the following day after my call to them and then an approval letter after three weeks. If you have had your second letter already I would want to believe you will be getting an approval letter.

It is such a painful process waiting that long. No one knows exactly how they process applications. I would say write them a formal letter by post instead of emails. Emails are most times generic but with letters, the department handling your case will respond to you directly and hopefully provide you with all the necessary information.

Dear All,
Would anyone explain what is the meaning of advanced stage in the citizenship application. Since 3 months and whenever I ask about my application I am told is at advanced stage. I am keen to know what does that mean and how long it could stay in this stage.
