Accommodation certificate for fiancee visa

Post by am2999 » Tue May 20, 2008 8:34 pm

Hi,
I am sponsoring my fiancee to apply for a fiancee visa and come live with me and I understand that I need to prove the adequacy of the accommodation where I live and where she will be living. I rent a flat and have called my local council for them to inspect it and supply an accommodation certificate proving this but my local council don't provide this service so I'm a bit stuck! Does anyone have any ideas of what else I can do or evidence I can provide? I'm getting a letter from my letting agent for the flat giving permission for my fiancee to live here with me and also they're supplying a copy of the tenancy agreement...would a statement by my letting agent as to the adequacy of my flat in the letter they're providing be sufficient? As I said...all ideas are welcome. Thanks in anticipation.

Try Estate agents.

Some of them do it and charge about £75-100 for it

As a sponsor one of the things you need to show evidence of is accommodation. I rent a flat and have bills to show where I live...a copy of my tenancy agreement...and also a letter from the letting agency giving permission for my fiancee to live here with me if and when she gets the visa.

I also believe you have to show the accommodation is adequate though and I'm having problems doing that. Firstly I approached my local council about an accommodation certificate but they don't offer the service as they have very few requests for them. They told me to contact the Chartered Institute for Environmental Health about members that do inspections for immigration purposes and I did so only to find the nearest person to me was 2 hours away and to visit me it was going to cost £150!!!! I was wondering if anyone knows about any other options (I went back to the council again but they had no suggestions besides paying the £150) or if I really need an accommodation certificate or inspection.

Thanks in anticipation.
