Help on UK Naturalisation from Africa

Post by mylo2018 » Mon Oct 01, 2018 5:17 pm

Hi,

I have some questions which I can't find answers to online - or perhaps missed, not sure where to look!

1) What happens if you are applying for UK Naturalisation with an expired passport from Africa? Expired 2014!
2) If you apply/pay online and refused due to any errors, do you get refund or have to apply/pay again?
3) Is it better to have an Immigration Officer review application?
4) When you have application signed by 2 referees, is there a timescale on when to apply? 2 referees completed and signed a few months ago but application not yet submitted

Thank you very much!
Thanks.

Should have mentioned that been in the UK for 20+ years, British education, completed life in UK test few years ago, not left country in 5 years, father became British citizen 30+ years ago.

Your topic heading is misleading.

1. Are you in the UK or in Africa?

2. We're you born after your father became British? How did he become British?

3. We're your parents married at the time of your birth?

4. Do you hold indefinite leave to remain?

Apologies for the misleading title. It’s on behalf of someone else.

1) In the UK and not left for 5 years - in full time employment
2) Yes, father was British before birth. He became British via the naturalisation process and he still resides in the UK
3) Yes, parents married at time of birth but since separated
4) Yes, indefinite leave to remain

Hope this helps?

If your father was naturalised as British BEFORE you were born AND your parents were married, you are automatically British and can apply for a passport directly.

There was no need for ILR or any visas at all.

Thanks for your help so far. Sorry, I’ve provided inaccurate information.

Father was not British prior to person being born. He completed this after the person was born and when they moved to the UK in the 90’s.

Do you require any additional info to provide assistance on the initial questions?

Thank you very much!

Useful to state that you are asking on behalf of someone else.
1) What happens if you are applying for UK Naturalisation with an expired passport from Africa? Expired 2014!
The 'person' will have to submit evidence since their passport expired of continued residence in the UK.
2) If you apply/pay online and refused due to any errors, do you get refund or have to apply/pay again?
If an application is refused, you do not get a full refund. You only get £80 back, the rest is lost.
3) Is it better to have an Immigration Officer review application?
Your choice. Most do it without an immigration advisor as it is not a difficult application to make.
4) When you have application signed by 2 referees, is there a timescale on when to apply? 2 referees completed and signed a few months ago but application not yet submitted
Not more than 6 months as far as I understand.
