Passport update:
I just got a message from Fedex, informing me that a package will be delivered tomorrow that requires a signature. It was sent from San Francisco, which is the location of the consulate to which I sent my application. Since I don't normally get such deliveries, and the fact that the passport status portal says it was dispatched last week, I think it's safe to assume it is my Irish passport.

This answers a question I posed recently. I was wondering if the passport is sent directly from Dublin when issued, or if it was returned via the embassy/consulate where the application was originally sent. Anyway, here is my timeline:

Application received by consulate: 22-August 2018

Status from passport tracking portal:
  • Application received in Dublin: 08-October 2018
  • Estimated issue date: 12-November 2018
  • Passport printed: 22-October 2018
  • Passport dispatched: 22-October 2018 (returned to San Francisco consulate)
Passport received: 01-November 2018

So, roughly 10 1/2 weeks from mailing of application to receipt. At least that's better than the 12-16 weeks the consulate said it might take.

Congratulations Tom!

Thanks for your help on previous questions I asked. I'm still waiting for the FBR - though hopefully this will come before Christmas!

As I mentioned on a previous post and I think to back up what michael123 mentioned, it does seem that after the reduction in processing time over the summer, the process is now taking up to the 6 month quoted time on the DFA website.

Thank you!

Maybe they are diverting resources from FBR applications to handle the still-high passport request volume.

If you are waiting since 17 months I would strongly advise you consult with a solicitor to get the decision as I did, solicitor will them a letter demanding decision telling them its not fair to delay for that long period.

Fanikhan15 if I am not wrong, you said earlier in your post that they refused your application but now you are saying that you are still waiting for your decision. Bit confused with your post

Woke up to an email from DFA. Apparently mine and my mom's birth certificates are the abbreviated version. I'm confused because in the US these are considered the long form birth certificates.

For those of you from the US, did your birth certificate and your parent's certificate list address of father, occupation, name and date of birth or age of both parents? They're claiming those need to be present. I have 28 days to get them back to Dublin but I don't even know if New Jersey issues them with this info.

Thats might be a problem for me also. Here in Massachusetts that is not listed on any certificates!

If you are able to get any further info, let me know and Ill try to get info here, is rather be prepared should they want the same from me.

That info is not listed on long form birth certificates in Illinois either. It lists name, age and place of birth on Illinois long form birth certs.

Are you sure you have the long form birth cert?

The long form birth cert should show names of parents, their ages and their place of birth. I’m guessing the occupation probably isn’t necessary.

Just looked at both of the certs I used (both Illinois). My dads lists parent names, their age, their address, my grandfathers occupation.

My birth cert lists my parents names, age, their current address (at the time) and their city and state of birth.

It sounds like you are using a short form birth cert.
