British Citizen by Descent. Want to go for my ROA now at 24

Post by AuthenticSailor » Mon Nov 26, 2018 2:34 pm

Hi guys. So, I’m British by Descent. My Dad- Born in Britain. I’m 24.

I want to claim my ROA outside the UK.

But I don’t have my mums birth certificate.

Just my dads birth certificate and his passport copy. My mums passport I have. Old one.

What do you think I do?

Given that you are claiming British citizenship through ancestry through your father, it is your father's documents that matter. So, so long as you have his British birth certificate (and assuming that he was born before 1983), your parents' marriage certificate and your own birth certificate, you are good to go.

Apply for your CoE-RoA (though it would be cheaper to apply for a British passport).

Thanks a lot secret.simon.

Yes. I think the British passport takes time. I don’t have that.

So I decided to apply for ROA and then get my British passport when I’m in the U.K.

Oh. I forgot to mention. Both my parents are deceased. That’s why I can’t find most documents except the ones I mentioned.

Both processes will take time.

You are looking at between six and sixteen weeks for a CoE-RoA anyway.

Generally most of the time goes in checks that depend on where you were born. So, where were you born?

:? You’re right!

I think I should just go for the passport at once and with that, I won’t need to submit my Nigerian passport.

I was born in Nigeria. I’m at Poland at the moment though.

I will apply from Nigeria

You still need the marriage cert for your parents though so try and get that too.
