wife should register at the police station?

Post by Falc » Sat May 31, 2008 12:03 am

Hi
My wife is from China and came to the UK half a year ago, she didn't register with the police because we didn't know we had to, now we are trying to get a national insurence number for her and it says we need a police certificate. On a university website it says it is a criminal offense to not register with the police within 7 days if reqired to do so. Is this only for students? If not, and she has been in the UK several months, what should i do? i didn't know she had to register before.
Thanks
James

When do you need to register with the police on arrival in the United Kingdom wrote:If you need to register, this requirement will be endorsed in your passport.

If you particularly want to get a definitive clarification write to UKBA - do not expect an answer any time soon though.

If there is no endorsement to the effect that she should register with the police you should get annex c letter from the link above back.

If there was an endorsement that she should register then do not worry unduly, it is no big deal. They will say at worst – “Thanks for your letter now go and register!"

A previous poster pointed to http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitec ... iew=Binary This seems to suggest that your wife does not need to register (paraphrase below)
