Date first entered UK - pre visa validity

Hi there,

Maybe a silly question/I'm overthinking, but please confirm: for any destination that you visit via a stopover (even for a few hours) in a different country, the final destination would be the main entry, is this correct? Would you mention the stopover at all under "What was the reason for this time spent outside the UK and Crown Dependencies?". Or should this be a separate entry.

Similarly, if you have a multi-country trip in the same "absence period", would you enter the first country as the main country, with mentioning any subsequent countries in the details section?

Or would you simply create a duplicate entry date-wise detailing the final destination country, and another one to show the country you travelled through? ie:

• 1 - 10 Jan - Indonesia

• 1 - 10 Jan - Singapore - travelled through to reach Indonesia

Basically they are after the entry and exit dates from UK so transits dont matter. If you did not leave the airport no need to mention airport transit in the reason but if you did leave the airport and entered that country even for few hours I would mention that. The short stay reason could be “transit overnight” or meet a friend etc

Assuming you left UK on 1st and back on 10th and visited Indonesia as the main destination via singapore, I would just mention the entry and exit dates from UK and mention country as indonesia and mention singapore in reason description provided

Sorry one more question - what about a day trip outside of the UK? The system doesn't seem to recognise this and asks me to enter in an end date that's after the start date.

The number of absence is only counted between the exit and entry dates. Exit date and entry date itself is not counted towards the number of days. So for example you left on 4th and came back on 4th it doesnot count anyways.

Did you acquire schengen visa from france or spain? That will be your main destination. I would just enter spain and mention france in the description during that travel period.

I don't require a schengen visa...I suppose I'll mark Spain down as it was the initial destination. Thank you for your help!

I'm applying for ILR on the 5 year route. I was previously on a tier 5 visa before being granted a tier 2.

My tier 5 visa was still valid when I was granted my tier 2, and so I entered the UK 2 days before my Tier 2 visa started. Will this affect my application?

Tier 2 visa valid from - 18/12/2013

You should have only entered the UK from the date your tier 2 was valid from and your tier 2 visa vignette stamped on entry. Your tier 5 visa would have likely been cancelled when your tier 2 was issued.

Are you sure you were not stamped in as a visitor??
