Fiance requires registration marriage

Hi all
Asking this question for a friend who is British citizen and lives in UK. Her daughter who is also British is engaged to a Pakistani man who was in UK on a study visa. His study visa runs out in 6-8 months time. He is insisting that they do a registration marriage as that will some how help him in his stay application in 6 months time. Is this true? I had a look at the immigration website and from what I could see they must be living together for that registration marriage to mean any thing for this guys application.
My friend wants her daughter to get married in two years time after she completes her Uni and does not want her to get married so soon. My friend wants to know if her daughter got registration married would that actually help his stay application or not.

They would need HO approval to marry as they have to give notice to marry at an HO approved registry office. No requirement to live together but once married they have to apply for a spouse visa for the first 2.5 years. At extension of visa, they have to prove subsisting relationship and again for ILR after 5 years.

If you query relates to a UK conducted Islamic marriage, this won't be recognised by HO.

Your friend's daughter also has to meet the minimum income rule of £18,600 p.a. in order to sponsor her fiance. Without any income, savings of £62,500 are required and these must have been held in an accessible account for at least 6 months. These can be joint earnings or savings.
