BSc (Physics)-->MCA equivalent to UK Masters'?

Dear All,

Got a query.

"Naric states a masters degree is only equivalent to a uk masters if awarded as a specialization following a bachelors degree in the same subject "

I have done graduation in BSc (Physics) and MCA.

I am planning to claim points for MCA as Masters - 35 points directly without going through NARIC.

For English Language proficiency, I have "Medium of Instruction" as English in all the semesters of BSc and MCA mark sheet.

Can you confirm whether my case is perfect for applying directly to HSMP.

Not necessary. I did B Tech followed by an MBA and was awarded points for a Masters degree. which Univ awarded degree for you MCA? Is it listed on the self assessment tool? If yes, you are in luck, otherwise you will have to get a evaluation done by NARIC.

Yeah, I did from MS University of Baroda. It's listed in NARIC..So no problem..But I think I will get it approved to be on safer side..

Are you applying for Tier 1 or HSMP?? The documentary evidence you provide will be based on which scheme you are applyin for.

If Tier 1, then as push_hsmp has suggested, no need for NARIC letter if your qualification is mentioned in the self-assessment tool. But if you are applying for HSMP, then I would recommend that you get the NARIC evaluation done.

And go by what BIA has to say in the matter, not what NARIC states. You are applying for a scheme controlled by BIA, not NARIC.

I did BSc (Statistics) and then MCA. I did not provide any NRAIC certificate.

I got HSMP approval letter. I dont think there would be any issue.

For the English requiement, did you the certificate from University ?

If you are dead sure that the degree is considered equivalent to a UK Master's Degree by NARIC (you might find that on a sticky on this forum) then there is no need for NARIC evaluation even if you are applying under HSMP. If there is even a slightest of doubt, get the equivalency letter from NARIC.

hmmm... things getting a bit murkier here. Let me try to find out something for you. In any case there could be some aberrations.
But not many people have faced such a problem in the past.

Just a suggestion that might help to an extent - but it is based on the following assumptions:
1. that it is not necessary to get NARIC evaluation done for both BSc and MCA qualifications together, or
2. that to get your MCA qualification evaluated by NARIC, there is no need to provide your bachelor level qualification details.

While you are applying for HSMP, it would be a good idea to make use of the Tier 1 self-assessment tool to find some information for yourself. Use the Tier 1 self-assessment tool to check whether you get 35 points for your MCA qualification. Enter details of your MCA qualification only (skip BSc altogether).

If you do get 35 points, in all probability, NARIC letter will confirm that your MCA qualification is comparable to UK Masters standard (I say so 'coz BIA awards points based on NARIC database only). If the self- assessment tool does not score 35 for your MCA qualification, then in all probability, it is not considered as equivalent to UK Masters standard by NARIC.

My suggestion would be that you get NARIC evaluation done for your MCA qualification only. Because if you request for evaluation of both BSc and MCA qualifications, then you might end up in the same situation as http://www.immigrationboards.com/viewto ... ript+naric

This is a personal opinion / suggestion and others might be able to offer different point of views or advice.

Could I know whether your MCA degree was 2 years or 3 years?

If it is 2 years, then definitely you get a NARIC certificate.

Sure, MCA is 3 years. I think that's the standard in India for all colleges.

It's very positive response from all of you.. Thanks for your wonderful support.

But I think, the simplest option will be just apply for BSc (3 years) in Qualification..I score 30 points and 45 points in salary and 5 points in Age..So no need to show masters and get extra points..Hope it shouldn't be a problem anywhere becos my work will based on my Master's course
