Post by TOJO » Thu Jun 05, 2008 8:48 pm

hi. i am from japan. my girlfriend is a french citizen living in uk. whats the easiest way for us to live together in the uk? we plan to get married. we just dont know where we ought to do it. i have heard that foreigners are not allowed to get married in the uk without a visa. any advice would be appreciated.

See also Getting married in the UK.

However, if you have been living together in a relationship akin to marriage for at least the preceding two years, then you may qualify as being in a durable relationship.

Are you currently in the UK or in Japan?

hi thanks for the response. i am in the uk now as a visitor. i would like to do things the easiest way. if that means going to france to get married then thats fine, but if theres an easier way to do it in the uk, then of course that is even better, but i dont want to go through the trouble of getting permission just to get married in the uk. i would rather just get married and then have my visa when i get in to work.
