Professional Referee

Hi All,
I am planning for Naturalisation application and understand that I need a professional Referee. As per the list Manger of a VAT registered company can be a Referee. I work in VAT registered company and like to request my manager to become referee. But I am not too sure about his exact position name on his Salary Slip, and in our company there has many non standard position name available.
Can anyone please tell me Is there any guideline to the position/designation name. and he has to prove this via his salary slip or HR letter.?

Also i like to know, I will complete 1 year of ILR issue(BRP date) on 13th March. Is this the date I can submit application online?
