Choosing the right visa

Post by dh123 » Fri Jan 11, 2019 8:38 pm

I am an American interested in living abroad for one year. I have enough money to support myself so I will not need to use public funds, but I don't seem to meet the other criteria for a VISA. I could be incorrectly interpreting the regulations and would like some advice as to what application would be the best one for me.

I would like to work as artist, but I don't work for a company or have anyone to sponsor me. (Tier 1) The Long-Term Standard VISA seems like it would be easier, but I want to stay longer than six months. Am I just out of luck?

Visit visa holders are are not allowed to work, even if you don't get paid for it like charity work. You have already looked at the work visa system - maybe others can give further advice.
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.
Please do not send me private messages asking for advice.

Tier 1 General, which I assume you are referring to, was withdrawn some time ago.

Please don't send me PMs asking for immigration advice on posts that are on the open forum. If I haven't responded there, it's because I don't have the answer. I'm a moderator, not a legal professional.
