visa for husband

We got married in UK (I'm British) with Home Office approval. My Bahamian partner was on visitor visa. He applies from UK for right to remain - refused as in the UK. He applies from Bahamas for Family visa - refused as wrong visa applied for.
Please advise, as driving us mad - should he apply for fiancee visa?

What visa exactly did he apply for exactly, which form??

He can't apply for a fiance visa if you ate already married??
