Hello everyone,
I am in the process of renewing my FLR by marriage. My wife is a UK citizen and I am an American citizen, but have been living in the UK for over 3 years and married to my wife for a little over 2 and a half years.
My wife has a daughter from a previous marriage and when I filled on the old application form, we had no problem listing our her and the documents we needed to send, however there is a question on the new application form that has us confused.
First it asks if my wife has any other children in the UK that are not applying on this application. Up to that point there wasn't a question if my wife had children, so we clicked yes. Then I entered in the information about our daugther. No problem, but then it asks,
"(Daugthers Name) other parent. At first we thought it meant her biological father, but then it asks for proof of where the other parent lives like a utility bill... then the birth certificates of both other parents. Well, her biological father lives in a different country and is barely a part of her life. We can't get him to send us a letter proving his address, let alone his birth certicate.
Then we thought, maybe the other parent is my wife. As in, the question is meant for me to answer who is the parent who is solely responsible for her. But, still having to provide "Evidence of where (daugthers name) other parent lives - such as utility bills." Doesn't sound like just my wife, along with having to provide the birth certificate of both of her other parents.
As I mentioned, her biological father is barely a part of her life and it doesn't seem to make sense to be asking for that type of information from someone from a previous marriage. We are both confused and can't seem to find a way to properly anwer this question. What has been other people experiences and what is the correct way to answer this question. Thank you.
