Different name on child's birth certificate and passport

Post by micro1 » Sun Jan 13, 2019 7:22 pm

Hi,
Can someone help me please with an advice. Names written here are imaginary.
I am planning to apply for British citizenship for myself and 2 children.
My daughter was born in one of middle eastern country. Her birth certificate issued in that country added father's (my) name along with her name. It is written as "Sarah King Andrew Boyle". Sarah King is name we gave her on birth and Andrew Boyle is father's name. In Arabic culture it is common to add father's name with child's name.
On her passports, school documents, GP registration and all UK visas including ILR, her name is Sarah King only. We want to register her British citizenship with her actual name which is Sarah King.
My question is can it cause a problem in her British citizenship registration application. I mean difference of name on birth certificate and passport. If so, what can I do to rectify?

On the MN1 paper form there is question 1.6 (Page 3) - you have the opportunity to explain:
1.6 Other names (If different from the name shown on the child’s passport/birth certificate, explain why on final page of the form).

Link to MN1 guidance: https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... n-form-mn1

Thank you alterhase58 for valuable advice.
I was thinking of the same. Would they ask for any evidence or simple explanation would suffice?

Regards.

Not sure what other evidence you can provide apart from your explanation. A letter from the consular section of the embassy or the country's ministry responsible? I would start with your explanation. Otr maybe this document (page 32): https://www.fbiic.gov/public/2008/nov/N ... K_2006.pdf. But we won't know how the Home Office approaches these questions.
