Using a PGCE bursary to sponsor a spouse visa application

Post by Hol » Fri Feb 08, 2019 4:49 pm

Hello

There was a post a while ago about this but it didn't seem to be resolved so I wanted to check if anyone has had any experience of a similar situation:

I am a British national and living abroad with my spouse, we plan to return to the UK so that I can study for my PGCE. I will receive a 26,0000 tax free bursary which will be paid over 10 months, I'm hoping that I will be able to use this as non-employment income (under Category C: a maintenance grant or stipend, associated with postgraduate study).

However, I'm unsure about the wording in Appendix FM Section 1.7, specifically in section 6.4.1 on page 42, where it says that:
"The person must be currently in receipt of the grant or stipend or will be within 3 months
of the date of application, and the grant or stipend must be payable for a period of at
least 12 months
, for at least one full academic year, from the date of application or from
the date on which payment of the grant or stipend will commence."

The bursary will be paid over the course of one academic year, which is only 10 months in this case (term time) - but the fact that the guidance states that it should be payable over 12 months is what I'm not sure about?

Has anyone else used a bursary to support a family visa application?

Thank you in advance! :)
