Hi,

While doing the self assessment in the BIA tool, the section that says, english language, we need to "Select English language qualification from the list of approved tests", As i have a letter from the university saying that i have completed my degree in english, so which one applies to me here from the list provided.
Which English Language qualification do i need to select.
Waiting for you inputs.
Thanks for all your help in advance.

Hi,

That means you have to take one of the exams listed. Letter from university is of no use. If your qualification is not listed in the english language section of the assessment tool, no way out but to sit for one of the approved exams.

You need to read the guidance notes (carefully).

If you don't have a qualification from that list answer no to the question you can then enter details of your degree to find out if that meets the English language requirement.

Bangalore University, jnana bharati is there - I just saw it. is your university different?

Can you provide details of your course, institute and university, I could check this for you then.

Hi push_hsmp,

Well my univeristy is bangalore university, i did my BSc from PES college, and then MCA from RV college, bangalore, which is affiliated to Bangalore university, jnana bharti campus.
And as they look if the degree is taught in english or not, so am claiming for Bsc degree and not MCA.
Even got the letter from the bangalore uniersity that the degree was in english.
IF you can check this for me, and confirm on it, then i can go ahead and apply..
LEt me know if am good to go or not.
Thanks for your help in advance...
Take care and good night..

Looks like I will never be able to come to the grips with Tier -1. Now as far as I have understood, Tier-1 has done away with the restriction of having a UK Bachelors degree which was taught on English!! What I gather from the guidance (BIA website as well as Tier-1 notes for India) if one has a Masters Degree which was taught in English even then he will qualify for Tier-1 (This is in stark contrast with HSMP rules where only Bachelor's degree was accepted for meeting the English language requirement).

The following are the relevant excerpts from BIA website and Guidance notes (as available from VFS India website):
"Degree taught in English
179. Applicants may provide evidence that they hold a degree
which is equivalent to UK Bachelor’s level or higher and which
was taught
or researched in English to a particular level as
evidence of their English language ability.
180. The qualification must:
• be recognised by UK NARIC as equivalent to at least a UK
Bachelor’s degree;
• have been taught in English to a standard comparable
to that of level C1 on the Council of Europe’s Common
European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning,
Teaching, Assessment (CEFR)."[/
quote].

I know, that in addition to the level of degree i.e. Bachelor/Masters the qualification also needs to meet the criteria as italicised above - I don’t know what these standards are. However, in order to check the veracity of my understanding, I entered details of only the Master's Degree of coolsats in the self-assessment tools and to my utter surprise this is what I got:
"English language

English language

The qualification(s) you entered previously are identified as meeting the English language requirement . You can claim your points using this qualification, enter another qualification, or claim points for an English language test.

"
And at no point did I enter any details of the Bachelors Degree. Is it then a fair assumption that even Masters Degree (if studied in English Medium) is sufficient for meeting the English Language Criteria??

People please advise - am I completely missing something here??

Hi Push_Hsmp,

Can you even put the bachelor degree BSc, and see what are the results you are getting, whether it meets the english language requirements just like the master degree.
That would help me confirm on this.
Thanks for your help in advance..

Will the result be any different if someone else does it for you. Come on my friend, you are applying as a highly skilled candidate ... at least use the self-assessment tool by yourself :?

No offence, but at least try to do some groundwork on your own - What does the self-assessment tool say in the english language section for either of your qualifications - BSc or MCA?? Paste the response here and we will tell you what it means, if it still confuses you.

Does the guidance say that a letter from university is a valid acceptable evidence? It doesn't - which means the letter has no use.

I believe it's best to keep personal egos locked up when interacting on this public forum, so I will reserve my comments on your immatur(ish) and emotionally driven utterances.

Coming back to the point (your query),

The result will still be the same. The least you can do is try *once* and let us know what message you get. Or is that asking too much??

I believe you are using the services of a consultant, so what does your consultant say on the issue? Since he is charging you for his services, he should be the one with expertise on Tier 1 nuances and appropriate to give you the best advice. But seems like he is leaving a lot of queries for you to find answers to. Anyhow, what does he suggest / recommend?

Hey Sushy,

chill buddy, a chilled bear might help you...

Well no am not taking the services of a consultants, i checked a couple of them, but they are all a waste of time, trust me i know more than they do, one of them was giving me 20 points for age, i just entered 28th - so its 10 and not 20. So, i decided i ll do all the research and do it myself.

Hey cooltits, now that's one good skilled decision you have taken.

Thanks but no thanks, big man! I don't want to sit in Marathalli drinking beer and imagine that I am already in UK sending my Tier 1 application using Royal Mail special delivery. . I am quite happy in this real world.

Jokes apart, in absence of a response from your end, I hope the confusion regarding english language requirements with your BSc/MSc degree is all settled and you're good to go.
