workpermit to Tier 1

I'm on a work permit in the UK but want to apply for tier1 application. If I get Tier 1 do I have to apply for a change in status or just tell my employer? Can my current employer do any legal action on me as i changed my visa status?

- Just tell your employeer. You dont need to do this if you dont wish to.

Can my current employer do any legal action on me as i changed my visa status?
- By UK law "NO". In fact you will be saving him money and hassel of renewing your WP. But please check your company contract if it says anything about switching of visa.
