Advise needed - Trying to get my Mom from South Africa to come and live with me in the U.K

Post by GMailes » Sun Apr 14, 2019 6:22 pm

Hi Everyone, I would like some advise. My Father was born on Wales and this is how i got my British passport.
My parents separated when i was young so my mom did not apply for a British passport while they were together. I have been living in the U.K for more than 18 years and have always supported my mom from here. As she is getting older and dependent on me helping i wondered if there was a way to try and get her to come to the U.K. My Mom is nearly 60 and doesn't have a South African pension & doesn't own any property or have any savings. She depends on me helping every month. We have started a company 4 years ago in the U.K and its just about getting on its feet. I am still renting at the moment and don't own my own place. Would anyone have some advise as to how or where i would need to start?

Many Thanks,

Regards
Gavin

No real route for you to sponsor her.

To get an adult dependent relative visa, the links below will give you an insight into what HO expects. Note that if you chance this visa and it is refused, it shuts the door to any future visitor visa for her too. It is a very difficult visa to get since the rules were made tougher in July 2012 and very few have been successful, mostly though very expensive appeals etc.

She will qualify for an SA pension when she turns 60 and this will also entitle her to free medical care at state facilities.

Had you asked a couple of years ago, we would have advised you to move to an EU country (move centre of life) and bring her that way through the EEA regulations as a family member, a free application, and then reside with her in a member state for 6 months to a year and come back to the UK using what is known as the Surinder Sing route, also free and she would have been able to stay for 5 years and then get PR. With brexit now, this is likely difficult to achieve. Many have used Ireland to do this in the past.
