Change in job role within company

Post by girik » Tue Apr 23, 2019 10:03 pm

Dear All,

I am on T2 general visa since Sep'17 and it is valid until Sep'2020. When my company applied for COS, the job type (Standard Occupational Classification) was 2319. After 6 months I moved to a different job within the same company, however the responsibility bit different from the previous one and they come under different SOC i.e, 2136. KIndy can you advise me on the below queries:

1. Do I need to inform/update anything to the immigration department about this change?
2. Can I extend the visa on the same COS number after the validity ends?
3. Is it okay if my company change my designation back to previous one or similar roles which belong to the same Standard Occupational Classification i.e, 2319?

Thanks & Regards,
Giri.

Technically if you move to a different SOC then the job has to be advertised and you would need a new COS and have to make a new visa application etc.

So the question is how sure are you the SOC has changed and why do you think that?

Thank you so much, Frontier.

I just compared my designation with Standard Occupational Classification designations and responsibilities to find the SOC.

Thanks & Regards,
Giri.

If you believe you are firmly in a different SOC you noe know the potential issues.
IT based roles / SoC are a difficult areas to unpick / compare, as there is a fair degree of ambiguity and without specific industry knowledge it is challenging for Home Office to say it is this SOC or that SOC.

Once again thank you very much for you reply, Frontier. I appreciate your help!

You are absolutely right about the roles we perform in IT. I am performing the same old roles along with some extra roles. That is why I am confused about this SOC.

Thanks & Regards,
Giri.

Hand on heart if you are doing 70% of your old role then the SOC is probably all good. That assumes your original SOC readily covered the activity you were employed to do.

Probably over thinking 👍😄
