Ancestry Visa or British Citizenship

Post by hjodha » Mon May 13, 2019 6:22 am

Hi,

I would like to know if based on my family is there any possibility for my mother and/or I to claim British Citizenship or receive a visa that will allow me to work there.

My grandfather(maternal) worked in British Army but was born in Agra, India. His passport mentions 'British subject by birth' since he received the British passport during world war 2. However place of birth is mentioned as Agra, India. My grandfather's passport at that time was a family passport and therefore it mentions my mothers name under children as they did not have a passport of their own. She now lives in India so has an Indian Passport. My questions are as follows:

1) Is there anyway I can check if my mother is or was registered as a British Citizen?
2) Am I eligible for any Ancestry Visa or is there a possibility for me to do something to claim British Citizenship?

Would really appreciate if someone could get back to me.

Thanks

You don't qualify for an ancestry visa as your grandfather is not UK born.

Moderator "secret.simon" or "vinny" would be best to advise of the British citizenship possibility aspect.
