Just over ten weeks ago I applied online for a transfer of the ILR in my expired passport to a BRP (NTL). When I submitted the application, the gov.uk site stated that decisions on such applications would be made within 8 weeks. I later learned that the process could take up to six months. Customer service reps at the Home Office have acknowledged to me that the statement of 8 weeks on gov.uk was a mistake. I would have paid the extra £610 at the time for the one-day 'premium' service had I known the information on the gov.uk site was incorrect.
My questions:
Can the Home Office be held accountable, legally, for the information it provided when I submitted the application?
Does anyone else have experience with using the new online application and document upload systems? If so, any successes? How long did it take to receive your BRP? Generally faster than the postal applications?
Since the Home Office stopped offering applicants the chance to upgrade to the one-day service after applications have been submitted, does anyone know of an exception being made?
Many thanks.
