Thank you for your answers, they are most appreciated.
She left in January 2017 and we made an Returning Residents application this March (so ~2 months after the 2 year cutoff) but unfortunately the application was declined as they could not find evidence that she had ILR. We requested an administrative review directing to this letter as evidence, but they stated that they could "see no such letter was provided".
We are therefore considering applying again but we wanted to be more sure that this letter would indeed carry weight towards providing ILR!
Thank you for the documentation Zimba, I will go through this in detail. My aunt has lived over half her life (40+ years) in the UK having worked here over 30 years. Unfortunately, the country treated her so well she never even thought of getting the nationality. The problem is that not only does such decisions effects the applicant but all the friends and family waiting for them to return!
