Length of visa on vignette tier 4 main applicant and dependents

Hi,

I applied for a tier 4 a week ago along with my dependents. While I am still awaiting my passport, my dependents have received their visas today with visa valid for 4 months, which I keep reading should be 30 days as the actual duration of stay is on BRP.
Is the length of visa a mistake?

Yes, that's odd.

Probably nothing to worry about but it will be worth checking with the application post why they are that odd length, and also that there will be BRPs ready for them to collect in the UK with the remainder of their leave.

Is it also odd that they got theirs before mine? Also, theres usually a letter that gives information about where to get BRP once in the UK. There was no such letter with the passports.
Where do the passports actually go to get the visa vignette? I know the application is processed in Sheffield. Do the passports go there too?

I don't think there is any specific cause for concern with your own leave at the moment, but something is definitely odd with your dependants' leave.

It's possible that by mistake they have maybe been given 4 months' leave total. Maybe it's a simple typo -- for example the end date should be in 2021 and the caseworker put 2020 in error? If you were expecting an end date exactly one year later than the end date on the vignette, that could be the issue. For sure you should check on this with the application post, or via the international student adviser at your university.
