Help with wrong Entry Clearance endorsement

Post by jrguerreiro » Fri Jul 19, 2019 1:50 pm

Hi,

My wife and I are employed at a Brazilian university, we'll be on sabbatical leave for 12 months from August/2019 on, we were invited to be visiting scholars at a university in the UK, and we have applied for Academic Visitor visas. Both of us have filled in the same form, and we presented exactly the same supporting documents (proof of employment, proof of sabbatical leave, sponsor invitation letter, proof of earnings etc.). My visa was granted correctly, and for the right duration. My wife's visa was also granted but, however, her Entry Clearance vignette came with an endorsement different than the category she had applied for: "D - To acc. partner". In the "Obs." field it also says "Dependant Visitor".

She never applied for this visa as my dependant, and I don't know what might have happened. Although she can enter the UK, our main concern is if she would still be allowed to carry out her private research (with no direct collaboration or work with counterparts in the UK) with this endorsement (as she would be if they had granted her the Academic Visitor endorsement). We have contacted the university's immigration office, but they also said they don't know.

Does anybody know about this, and have any suggestions of what line of action we could take? We should travel on 14/08/2019. Any information would be very helpful.
Thanks,
Regards,

Antonio
