Hello,
My husband and I are Americans living in the UK with Indefinite Leave to Remain. We have a six year old boy who also has ILR and his biometric residence permit has just expired. I am looking to renew this but having difficulty determining which application to complete as the Home Office website only seems to have applications for lost or stolen biometric cards? If anyone could advise, I'd be hugely grateful.
Thanks,
K Hunt

Thank you, this is really helpful. Under the declaration section it reads:
"Will you provide a declaration signed by you to confirm your consent for the Home Office to request verification checks"
However, my son is 6 years old and as a result not able to do this. However, there does not seem to be an option that states a parent or guardian will do this. Should I just tick "yes" anyway even though my son technically won't be the person signing the consent (I will be signing the consent on his behalf.)

And we are also planning to travel back to the States to visit family next month (12th Feb.) If we make an appointment to submit our application via the traditional method (rather than paying £900 for the rush premier service) would we receive his materials and biometric card back in time to travel?

For minors a parent should sign.

There is no traditional route. You should submit the documents in person. A BRP may take up to 6 months to arrive

We are all due to travel to the States next month to visit family during my son's half-term - if we don't receive his BRP card in time for the trip, can we safely travel without it? Since we all have indefinite leave to remain, would we have an issue getting back through UK customs without my son's BRP card if he doesn't have it in time?

As American citizens you have no issues boarding the plane, so if you copy the old BRP and present it at the UK border the child could be admitted as a resident rather than a visitor.

Hi Zimba I’m having the same problem but I’m a Malaysian. Can my child six years old enter the UK without new brp? Please advise. Thank you.

Hi,
I am also in the same situation, i have applied for renewal of bio metric card of my kid and not received the new one yet. what happens if we travel to india, and coming back to UK on expired bio metric would we get allowed to board flight in indai, and entry to uk.

You won't be able to board a plane with an expired visa/BRP card.

Hi sridevit81,
Have you got the renewed BRP for your kid?
When did you apply for the renewal?
We have applied in July 1st week and we haven't received yet.

I recently traveled back to UK on kids expired ILR BRP card(5months over due) but my BRP was valid. luckily I have gone through all transit immigration clearance with lot of waiting on every check in points after my humble request before I have been cleared to board the flight. Finally UK home office allowed my kids to enter UK as their ILR is valid but card has expired. they have impounded the expired BRP card and asked me to apply for new card. most important I stayed only 3weeks in india and returned on same return ticket I booked and did not change original return ticket.
