Right of Abode renewal and life while it is being processed!

Post by NZScotland » Sun Aug 11, 2019 7:54 pm

Hi All,

I was hoping you would be able to offer me some guidance as I am now beyond confused!

I have submitted my Right of Abode application (within the UK). This is my 3rd application- which has always been processed very quickly and efficiently. I now understand that the processing times are alot slower. My problem is, I have applied and been offered a new job- 3 days after my passport expired and a month into my ROA application. My potential employer has photocopied my passport with the Right of Abode, but I believe that this can not be considered "proof" due to the passport expiring.

Is there any way around this? It seems slightly unfair that I could potentially lose the employment offer due to the processing times, particularly as it is clearly states that the ROA is a life long entitlement. Can my new employer contact the home office for confirmation of right to work?

Any help or advice- much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I have seen a similar case last year where the employer contacted the Home Office by phone and explained that a job offer is at stake. They said they can't promise anything or give an ETA but within 2 - 3 days, they sent a certificate of application with the right to work.

Your employer can try to contact them. They seem reactive to such requests.

Thanks so much for your reply, I am pleased it worked out!

I contacted the home office earlier today who said that I could give my employer the case id number as proof that my application is submitted and this could provide temporary proof of right to work.

I will let my new employer know- once this is processed I will be applying for a British passport as I can't go through this every 5 years!
