The more immediate question is, can you get into Ireland?

First, what country are you from? Do you need a visa to enter Ireland? If so, you may not be able to apply for an Irish visa from within the UK since you won't be able to provide proof of legal residence in the UK.

Ok, you are living illegally in the UK, and are planning on entering Ireland illegally?

As to whether you can marry if illegally in Ireland, I think it is up to chance. Some places will check your status, others won't. I have been told of immigration officers meeting the party at the registry office on the day of the wedding, but I don't know how widespread this is. (I was told this by someone at the Immigrant Council). They are bringing in changes to check a person's status, but I'm not sure if it's been implemented. The process just to get married takes at least 3 months.

*If* you manage to get married in Ireland, I highly doubt you'll be able to change your status to a legal one from within Ireland. People in Ireland LEGALLY as the spouses of EU citizens are facing enormous difficulties in trying to be able to stay.

Any way you look at it, your best bet is going to be to return to your home country and apply to enter either Ireland or the UK from there.

I can't, no. But would it have hurt to have thanked yankeegirl for the useful advice she has given to you?

Anyway, all legal issues aside (and I strongly advise you to do things the legal way, returning to your home country, applying for a visa etc.), IF you can enter Ireland via the route you have suggested - and IF you can marry in Ireland - you MAY then, possibly, get Stamp 3 during your certain fight to get Stamp 4. Assuming your spouse, by that time, is working in Ireland (or exercising another EU Treaty right).

Since Stamp 3 gives you legal (dependent) status in Ireland, you MAY then be able to apply to the UK authorities for an EEA Family Permit and then, IF granted, move to mainland UK - or to Northern Ireland - to live legally with your spouse.

You see all the ifs and maybes? Can you imagine the headache? Better keep within the law (and keep your sanity), and apply for a visa from your country of origin.
