It is definitely not advisable to travel and stay for long abroad if you're still looking to retain/maintain your status here in the UK. The document allows you to visit other countries for up to 3 months or less at any one time on a trip abroad. You should also be mindful of the amount of days you're absent for with the 5 years limited leave to remain duration, leading up to your settlement application. The total number of days you can be absent for must not exceed 450 days in total within the 5 years permit, although with few exceptions for people who fall into certain categories. If and when you get your indefinite leave to remain(settlement), you must not have been absent from the UK for more than 90 days within the 12 months leading to you being due for naturalisation, if you'll be choosing to apply straightaway.
