Switching from Tier 4 to tier 2 question

I’m sorry if this has been posted before but getting the run around from different departments is getting a bit confusing.

I have just finished my degree here in the UK (I am from the US) and I have been offered a visa qualifying position. However I did have FAFSA loans and the application says I will require a letter of permission from the Government or Scholarship agency. Does anyone have any advice or a direction I should go to obtain such a letter? I have contacted my loan servicer, FAFSA office and the US department of education and they all just refer me to each other.

Which application refers to the FAFSA loan?

The last time I saw a Tier form, it was the paper version and there was nothing regarding a FAFSA loan. Who is requesting that document? The Home Office? Your new employer?

Mandatory requirement for government sponsored or scholarship agency students. See page 48 of the Tier 2 Guidance notes, point 198 onwards.

I checked their website, there is nothing there about such letter:

there wouldn't be as it is a Home Office requirement not a US scholarship or funding organisations requirement.

Yes, it's a Home Office requirement but he needs to get that letter from the Federal Student Aid. There must be a way to log a case or to print a similar letter somewhere that satisfies the Home Office that they are OK for him getting a work visa in the UK.

Thank you for all the replies. I’ve been on the phone with FAFSA’s office and they advised me That they cannot authorise a document like that and I’ll need to go to the embassy and ask there to see if such a letter can be made. This was after a long few conversations with different people explaining what this letter actually is.

There are 2 concepts here:

- They don't have such letter / don't know what it is / it doesn't exist

or

- They don't allow you to work in the UK as there are strings attached to the loan you got

One way, at least in theory, to exit this situation is to refund them.

Hope the Embassy can help. It couldn't be first time someone was in your situation.
