UK Standard Visa Sponsorship

Post by thx1138-001 » Sat Nov 09, 2019 12:01 am

I need guidance on whether sponsorship is required for a UK standard visitor visa, in particular what documentation is required.

A cousin in Sri Lanka wishes to come to the UK for a short stay to visit family. His uncle, who is retired is considering sponsoring him. He will be covering any expenses related to his stay and if require he will be providing a letter of sponsorship undertaking to be responsible for the cousin's maintenance and accomodation.

Question 1: Is my uncle entitled to give an undertaking for the cousin's maintenance and accomodation during his visit?

Question 2: What evidence does my uncle need to provide, bearing in mind he is retired, for the undertaking?

Just some questions about your cousin:

- Does he have a family in Sri Lanka? (wife, kids)

- Does he work or have a business?

- Does he own a property there?

- Did he travel to Europe, USA, Canada, Australia... in the past?

His retired uncle can sponsor his visitor visa to the UK by showing proof of residence and revenue. But if the answers to the questions above are all "NO", the chances of getting a visitor visa to the UK are very slim.

Thankyou, I appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions. To clarify for you: My cousin in unmarried, but he has property in Sri Lanka, is employed as a tour guide and has previously travelled to the UK.

With respect to my uncle, I would like to know if his age may be an issue? He is 94, but in reasonable health.

That's good for your cousin. If he already traveled to the UK, has a property and a job, it's significantly increases his chances.

The age of the sponsor is not a concern. I have never seen any high limit when it comes to the age.

Your uncle needs to write a letter and provide:

- 3 months proof of retirement revenue + corresponding bank account statements showing the money coming in
- A couple of utility bills / Council Tax as a proof of address
- Copy of his id

From the sponsor, these are only the documents to send.
