Regarding long stay employment visa and 1 year passport validity requirement

Post by jay_pc » Tue Nov 12, 2019 4:50 pm

Background: I am an Indian citizen and my current Indian passport expires March 2021.

I have a full-time job offer from a company in Ireland, and the company is in the process of applying for a critical skills employment permit using my current passport (among other documents). Since processing time for employment permit can take more than 12 weeks, it might very well be the case that by the time I apply for a long stay visa, my passport might have less than one year validity. The requirements for long stay visa state that if the passport has less than one year validity, then I have to renew the passport before applying (in India, it is called "reissuing" passport).

My question is: Is it okay for the employment permit to be tied to my current passport, and apply for long stay visa with the renewed passport (The renewed passport will have a new passport number. I will send both my passports with the visa application, along with a letter of explanation).
