Marriage visa for Brazilian?

Post by Gleemonex » Mon Nov 25, 2019 3:25 pm

Hi all,

My partner and I are due to marry in Feb 2020. He is Brazilian and I'm Irish. He had to leave Ireland as his Stamp 2 visa had expired but we got the permission to marry before he left. I'm just a bit confused as to how he goes about returning to Ireland, i.e, does he need to apply for a marriage visa or just return on a 90 day stay and then apply for the Stamp 4 after we're married?

Does this apply to our situation, as he is from a non visa required country..

The other thing is that he does not have return flight to Brazil booked as his flight to Ireland is the return ticket from when left the country. Could this be a problem at passport control at port of entry?..even though he's coming to get married and can supply all relevant supporting documentation.

Hoping some of you can help.

Thanks :D

The website should have provided you with everything you need to know.

Brazilian nationals do not need a visa to get married in Ireland. You two already have the confirmation from registrar so bring it when he arrives in the airport.

He may want to bring some extra evidences to show that you two have genuine relationships (e.g. printed chat history, photos together, bank statements showing the same address and inter dependency etc), in case the officer wants to know more.

He does not need a return flight and he should mention to the immigration officer that he intends to get married and live with you in Ireland afterwards. The officer will give him a suitable stamp so that he can register with GNIB once you are married.

I should have added that the INIS site is what caused the confusion. The information is there but it is by no means clear and concise. We had gotten two different answers from being in contact with immigration services here in Ireland and that's why I posted.

Thank you for the reply, it's very much appreciated. :D
