Applying for a spouse visa from within the UK

Post by vee0909 » Sat Dec 07, 2019 9:51 am

Hello guys, I just started on my application and I need help with a few things. I am currently on a student visa and hoping to change to a spouse visa as I recently got married.
1. Can I use Mrs as my new tittle on the application even though it's Miss in my passport and my name hasn't changed?
2. I lived with my husband before we got married but he paid/pays all the bills while I bought/buy all the groceries. We have no joint bills in both our names. How else can I prove that we lived together before marriage? Can my bank statements do? And will it be seen in a bad light that I don't contribute to the other bills? We are quite happy with how it is.
3. I will graduate next year with a Master's degree from a UK university. Can I use a transcript for English proficiency and not a certificate as I will only get my certificate after graduation?
If anyone has a link to a guideline for filling the application form out, please share it with me.
Thank you and kind regards.

1. Stick to what is written in passport
2. For initial spouse visa application no cohabitation evidences are required rather any evidence even in individual names will be sufficient.
3. Without degree certificate you will have to pass A1 ielts life skills test.

Thank you for your response. It's just that the application form provides two options for English proficiency, certificate from the UK university or official transcript with confirmation of award if awaiting graduation. Just double checking before I can spend on the English test. Kind regards.

See paragraph 31. (b) of Appendix FM-SE for the requirements for using an official transcript as proof of meeting the English Language requirement if you do not yet have the degree certificate.

Thank you for your response, I will be using the transcript then. Another quick question, I started living with my now husband in March but didn't change my bank address till June. Should I mention that in my application and provide bank statements from June till now to show proof of cohabitation or is that unacceptable? I do not have any documents to prove that we started living together in March apart from our WhatsApp conversations.

I should note that it seems implicit in the requirements that the degree has been completed and it's just the issue of the certificate that is pending (could be wrong on that). I think seagul has addressed cohabitation evidence already as what you're really trying to show with this evidence for the initial spouse visa is a genuine and subsisting relationship and an intent to live together permanently in the UK, but some bank statements would be helpful as well as any other official documentation sent to you (mobile phone bills, GP/NHS letters, DVLA or HMRC letters, etc.). Whatsapp conversations aren't really proof of address.

Contact details in the link below:
https://www.gov.uk/contact-ukvi-inside-outside-uk

The contact centre is run by a third-party company and there may not be a way to change what was submitted. From other posts on here, it sounds like UKVI will generally ask for the consent forms to be sent if the correct ones were missing.
