Thank you frontier Mole, that was the guideline I followed, I gave the home office a call and they said what I did was correct, that once the fee waiver is granted, I will be given two codes which is can use to apply for my leave to remain. As I am in receipt of help from the Local Authorities and a registered Charity I’m hoping my fee waiver is accepted.
Hi can I ask what charity you used please?
Could you please give me the home office number you called, if that's okay by you

It is normally subject to a lengthy process as checks are made to establish the veracity of the claim. This can include random visits to the applicants home address or an invite to interview. There was a drive a couple of years back to check all fee waiver cases as there was an abuse trend in submission of false fee waiver claims.
Once the case is accepted as fee waiver it then progresses onto the normal process for the application route that is being sought.
Thanks for your response. I am currently being supported by the social services under section 17 with accommodation and money. Hopefully the checks is not too long. Really need to put my application in.
@eledumare please can you let me know how you got help with accomodation and support from the council under section 17?

I got help from the social services as a I had a child in need of accommodation.
The council will not help directly as I had no rights then. So the social services took a lot of details from me and I had to show bank statements to show that I was destitute meaning I had no one else to help me before they gave us help with accommodation and money.
So you are best going directly to social services.

@eledumare thanks a great deal for the quick reply. I am in a similar shoe as you were. We are a family of 4 , two kids and two adults. But the only thing is We are not fully homeless as we are in a 1 room all sharing 2 beds and sharing facilities with other.
I wanted to know how long it took for the social services to help you with accomodation . And how busy was your bank statement. Cos we are actually going through with the social services but they are relunctant in helping out. But they are not saying yes or no for the past 2 months.

Ohh I see what you mean. It really is quite stressful but you will get there in the end.
With me it took almost 6-8 months before they helped because they kept pushing my back to stay in my brothers house. I eventually had to go to the British Redcross and even went with my son to the police station as we had no where to sleep that night before they put us in hotel for 2 nights? Then bread and breakfast for additional 10 days then we were put in temporary 1 bed flat. It wasn’t easy but I was patient as I needed the help.
I will advice you reach out to a charity that can help you because most times once charity is involved they help you quicker. On my own it took me almost 8 months with the help of charity it took 3 days.
My bank statement wasn’t really active as I was really broke and had no money coming into my account.

I read your thread about the fee waiver and how long it took. After that how long did the processing of visa take.?
We are applying for FLR FP as we have a 9 year old but currently waiting on the fee waiver responce for about 1 month now.

Ohh that’s really nice. Fingers crossed they will reply you soon.
It took a month for my fee waiver to be approved, once I got my fee waiver put in my application and it took a little less than a month for my visa application to be processed, I have to say mine was really quick and I was surprised myself.
Just be positive as you have a 9 year old then you and your family will all get it.
Please let me know if you have any other questions. I wish you all the very best and I can’t wait to type you a congratulations message

So have you actually made a ILR FP parent route application?
No I havnt as I did the fee waiver online. And was asked under what route will I be applying. So it’s all very confusing to me now.

Hi Eledumare,
I am in exact situation as you were at this point. Seems very confusing even though I have been reading through. Your input is greatly appreciated since you are in the other end now. Done the fee waiver online 3 weeks ago, haven’t heard from them, worried because visa expires in 2 weeks time.
