Urgent! Tier 4 to Tier 2

Hi, I have been granted a Tier 2 visa after swapping from Tier 4 in mid December 2019. I was informed by my university that I would receive my diploma which qualifies me to work under the position titled for my Tier 2. I am currently working for a gov organisation under a minor position on a temporary contract until I receive my diploma/qualification. The university has made an error and my diploma will be delayed and can take up to two weeks. My Tier 4 visa would have expired on the 15th of January 2020 though I finished my course late. I’m wondering if I would be in violation to continue working in the UK under a temporary contract until I receive my diploma from the university which will now most likely be after the 15th of January 2020? I’m also wondering if I could inform someone of my situation so as not to commit any violations as it has been out of my control? Thank you to anyone who can offer advice.

Hi, thanj you for your reply. Yes, under a different position. I was allowed to under the tier 4 after finishing my studies. As long as its a temproary contract. The visa authorities are aware.

By getting a tier 2 visa, your tier 4 is cancelled and no longer valid. The only rules that apply to you now is tier 2 and the requirement is to work in the position stated in the cos.

I wonder if the rules are different because I am allowed to apply for a tier 2 before I finish my studies and I had informed them on my application that I was waiting for my diploma?

The tier 2 rules are no different. Waiting for a diploma while APPLYING for a tier 2 is ok. Working for your sponsor in a job that is not what the cos was issued and assigned for is the problem.
