Me and my Filipino wife have been married for 2 years this coming October. I am born British and my ancestry is all British. We have a daughter that already has a right to abode visa in her passport. And a stepdaughter. Would I only need to add the stepdaughter onto the financial requirement. I meet the requirement but my job is zero hours (the hours are 99% guaranteed but its the nature of the job offering zero hours contracts avoids a long dismissal process) would this contract affect any application. Also she had a visit visa refused 3 years ago would this have any effect on future applications?

Is your step daughter also applying for a visa? If yes then the income requirement is £22,400pa that you have to prove and you have to make two applications, ie 2 X vaf4a and 2 X appendix 2.

1) is end of tax year the right time to apply do you have to have just earnt the required amount or can it be a projected amount if you apply before end of tax year. Or fresh into the new tax year.
2) when calculating the children do you only calculate the sponsored children or all children. My wife and I have 2 kids. 1 is biological and already has right to abode. 1 is my step daughter who doesn't. Am I right to believe I only need to show funds for my step daughter?
3) I freak out at the sight of paperwork, does anybody know of a relatively cheap immigration lawyer that can help take the stress out of the process.
4) I've had a couple of direct debits returned since Christmas, is this going to hinder my application in any way?

1. This depends on how you earn your income. If you are self-employed or are the employee/director of certain types of companies (generally those owned by your or your family), then the financial requirement is based on income earned in the last full financial year (or average of the last 2 full financial years). Regular employment income is typically based on calendar months prior to the date of application.

2. Only sponsored children need to be considered in determining the financial requirement you will be required to meet.

3. If you're going to go cheap, you may be better off doing it yourself. For most cases the application is relatively straight-forward and immigration lawyers will only put together an application based on the information you provide, so there's a good chance you'll end up doing a lot of the work yourself anyway.

Thank you that's taken a lot of the stress away. Proving the financial requirements is no problem at all as I earn more than required. Was just worrying about the state of my bank account since Christmas
