BRP renewal for child on ILR

Post by PandILR15 » Sat Dec 28, 2019 11:10 pm

Hi,

I couldn't find anyother thread related to this, so posting it as a new one. Apologies If there is one already, please let me know the link.

My Son's BRP is expiring in couple of months (5 year limit as child), we are all on ILR and living in UK. I am also planning to apply for naturalization for all 3 of us. Should I apply for his BRP renewal first, before applying for naturalization? If not, after applying for naturalization , are we allowed to travel to europe with an expired BRP whilst naturalization application is in progress?.

Any response to this is much appreciated, Thank you in advance.

This is entirely up to you. If you are planning to apply for naturalisation before the ILR BRP expires, then that is fine. You will only need a scanned copy of the BRP to be added to your naturalisation application.

.
I don't think any airline will allow you to board a plane to the UK with an expired BRP. So if you must travel while your naturalisation application is under consideration, that I will suggest travelling with a valid BRP.

Without a valid BRP, a visa national will not be able to fly back to the UK. Also a BRP replacement could take 6 months

Thank you for responses, I was thinking that BRP renewal would be much quicker. But if BRP renewal takes 6 months, similar to naturalization process, then going for naturalization directly seems to be a better option in my case.

Hi,

Can I apply for my child's naturalization shortly after his BRP expiry?

If not,

1 . Any requirement for minimum BRP validity requirement for minor naturalization please?
2. what is the procedure for renewing child BRP please?

Children do NOT naturalise they get registered. Also you do not need to replace the BRP in that case
