Tier 2 ICT Dependant to Tier 4 Student Visa

Post by sathiyag » Mon Apr 13, 2020 2:06 pm

Hi,

My daughter is currently on Tier-2 ICT dependant visa and doing A levels. She has secured admission to MEng with a few universities in the UK and we would like to get her visa changed to Tier-4 Student visa. In this regard, I have a few questions please:
1. Does she have to leave the UK and apply for Tier-4 from her home country (or) can she switch within UK?
2. I understand that she wouldn't be eligible for Student Finance in UK. Is this correct?
3. For her Tier-4 Visa, we need to submit proof of financial evidences that we have enough money for my daughter to complete the course. As a parent sponsoring her education should I be showing my monetary evidences in the UK (in my UK bank account) or should this be based on monetary evidences in my home country?

Looking forward to your inputs. Thanks

1. She has to apply from home country.

2. Correct yes so she has to pay international fees.

3. UK evidence is fine.

Thanks much for your prompt response. Two more follow on question please.

1. In line with UKCISA guidelines my daughter has now been classified as a 'Home Fee paying student'. This is based on the long residence category where she has lived in the UK for more than half her life. Does this mean, she also becomes eligible for Student Finance in UK?

2. My daughter is planning to do a 4 year MEng course here. The Financial evidence we demonstrate should cover the First year's tuition fees and living cost for the first 2 years. We dont have to show bank balance covering all 4 years of tuition and living cost. Is this correct?

Thanks again

To clarify, they are not UKCISA's guidelines. It is the university that assesses a student's fee status, based on the whether they meet the provisions of the Fees and Awards regulations, which are the law of the land. UKCISA is an educational charity that provides advice and guidance on various matters by phone and through a website to students and universities.

Whether someone is eligible for student support on the basis of long residence depends whether the country where they live has a such a provision. In England and Scotland, yes. In Wales and Northern Ireland, no. See https://www.ukcisa.org.uk/Information-- ... nt-Support

I don't know where you are getting this requirement that she needs to show maintenance for 2 years or for the whole course. The requirement is to show evidence of money for both fees and living costs for the first year. See https://www.ukcisa.org.uk/Information-- ... layer-3004
