Basic ilr status info

Post by fatimahj » Thu May 21, 2020 9:51 am

Hi,
These are very likely silly questions but I will be grateful if someone can explain please.

1. How long can one keep an ilr status for?
2. Brp reads a 5year date limit. What happens after that?
3. Obviously applying for naturalisation is the sensible way forward but what happens if its rejected? Does ilr status continue or do we pack up and leave UK?
Thank you.

Indefinitely if you reside within the UK. It lapses automatically after an absence of more than two years from the UK and/or if the Immigration Officer at the sea/air port concludes that you are no longer resident in the UK (i.e. if you have been living abroad for long periods of time and returning to the UK for only short visits).

Apply for a new BRP. Your ILR continues.

ILR status continues.
